Doron leads Israel U18’s to win over Sweden

The Israel Under-18 National Team downed Sweden 86-72 in European Championship action as they finish the group stage round robin 2-1 and now wait to find out who their Round of 16 knockout stage opponent will be. Shachar Doron starred for the young blue-and-white with 31 points to lead the team which featured five players in double figures.

Head coach Sharon Avrahami’s squad had a bit of a rough start and headed into halftime all knotted up at 40-40 but Doron took the bull by the horns and shot lights out to help Israel to the victory.

While Doron paced the blue-and-white, Ofri Naveh added 12 points, Alon Michaeli scored 11 points while Omer Mayer and Ori Cohen each scored 10 points in the win. Viktor Lukic-Gavric with 16 points and Kaspar Martenson with 10 points led Sweden in the loss.

“We saw that we had some issues with the small details in the first half which gave Sweden some confidence,” Avrahami began. “But we made adjustments in the second half and the guys did a great job on defense when we started to switch. Shachar Doron was incredible and is a winner as he showed up in money time and was terrific defensively. I believe that players who give it their all should be acknowledged.”
