“Deni is on a team that isn’t suitable for him. I hope they’ll trade Beal or Westbrook” Israel U20 Coach Beit Halachmi opens up about Avdija and the Wizards

Ariel Beit Halachmi who coached Deni Avdija with the Israel Under-20 National Team in both 2018 and 2019 when the squad won back to back European Championships spoke about the rookie’s season to date in the NBA on Hamesh B’Aveer Radio. The bench boss was frank in his comments as he is frustrated with what he has seen so far from the way the Israeli sensation has been handled by the Washington Wizards.

“Sometimes when I am watching I want to break the TV,” Beit Halchami who is currently coaching Hapoel Eilat in the Israeli league. “Deni is with a team that isn’t suitable for him. He can’t show his abilities playing next to two such egotistical guards. It upsets me because as an artist they’re missing out on him.”

The 55-year old coach who may take over the senior national team position feels that a change of scenery may be in order for Avdija, “I really hope that they’ll trade Bradley Beal or Russell Westbrook, or Deni himself will leave and go to a place that knows how to take advantage of his abilities. Take a young guy like Deni who has tons of ability and miss out on it, it’s a pity.”

“Every time Deni Avdija takes a rebound and passes it to them, for them to make the decisions, it’s less points for the team,” explained Beit Halachmi. “When he leads the fast break, it always ends in points. To stand in the corner and wait is just a waste for everyone. I am sure that he will get out of this and I very much hope that he will be traded so that we can see his terrific abilities.”
