1) Heartbreak! The Israel U20 basketball team fell 60-59 to Germany after Deni Avdija’s potential game winning 3-pointer rattles off the rim in their opening game of the European Championships. Richard Freedenberg’s 3 with one second left was all the difference as the Blue & White come up short. Michael Brisker led Israel with 13 points while Avdija added 10 in the defeat. Coach Ariel Beit Halachmi’s squad held a 30-29 halftime lead but came out flat in the 3rd quarter as they were outscored 14-2, 7 minutes in to the frame. The Blue & White took a 57-54 lead with two minutes left in the contest but couldn’t hold on for the victory.
2) On Sunday the Israel U20s took down Romania 95-48 in a game that was never in doubt as the Blue & White moved their record to 1-1. Michael Brisker led Israel in scoring for the second straight game with 15 points as Ido Shabbat added 11 points while Raz Adam and Ido Flaiser each dropped 10 points in the win. Deni Avdija also chipped in with 8 points and 10 board. On Monday, Israel will finish off group play against Greec at 18:00 Israel Time.
