As part of the Sports Rabbi Israel Baseball Special at the World Baseball Classic, we followed up with one of Game 2’s heroes, Corey Baker. Baker pitched tremendous no run ball for close to five innings as his teammates made sure to give him plenty of help on the offensive side of things.
Let’s see what he had to say about his outing and Israel’s two game win streak:
S.R: How did you feel pitching so well with the great run support in Game 2?
C.B: The run support was great. We know what our offense is capable of, and I think that game was more indicative of the type of offense we have. It really allowed me to simplify what I wanted to do and stay aggressive by us jumping out to that early lead.
S.R: How amazing is the support you’re getting from your family and Israeli fans in attendance?
C.B: The support from my family means everything to me. Playing this game brings a lot of challenges, and knowing I have a group of people behind me that care so much about me is the best thing I can ask for. It’s amazing that people traveled all the way from Israel as well to watch us play. It’s a great example of what a passionate group of people Israelis are, and as players we’re so lucky to have them behind us.
S.R: Do you have a message to the people here in Israel and friends of Israel throughout the world?
C.B: To everyone in Israel following along with this journey we just appreciate your support and know that we’re honored to represent you and excited to keep growing baseball in Israel.
